Microsoft vient de publier une nouvelle mise à jour cumulative pour son système d’exploitation Windows 10. Elle s’adresse aux ordinateurs sous « Avril 2018 Update » alias Windows 10 v1803.
Cette maintenance est proposée en dehors du traditionnel Patch Tuesday. Elle ne vise pas la sécurité mais la résolution de certains problèmes. KB4346783 est proposé au travers du service Windows Update. Son installation permet à Windows 10 de progresser en version 17134.254.
La note de version est imposante avec une longue liste de correctifs.
Windows 10 et KB4346783, corrections de bugs
L’un des correctifs les plus importants concerne un souci d’impression sur la version 64-bit de Windows 10 au travers d’une application 32-bit. Il est lié à une précédente mise à jour cumulative, KB4034681.
Microsoft explique que sa solution n’est cependant pas complète pour résoudre le problème. Des étapes manuelles supplémentaires sont nécessaires en particulier avec une intervention dans le registre. Il est expliqué
«Ce correctif apporte une solution au problème empêchant l’impression sur un système d’exploitation 64 bits lorsque les applications 32 bits empruntent l’identité d’autres utilisateurs (généralement en appelant LogonUser). Ce problème se produit après l’installation des mises à jour mensuelles à partir de KB4034681, publié en août 2017 »
La firme souligne que « Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit » est requis pour activer « Splwow64Compat App Compat Shim ». Enfin il est nécessaire d’intervenir dans le registre à cette adresse
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print Setting: Splwow64Compat
Il faut définir la valeur DWORD sur 1 puis procéder à un redémarrage de l’application 32-bit.
Un problème connu
Cette mise à jour cumulative n’est pas parfaite. Elle s’accompagne d’un problème connu et non corrigé. Le lancement de Microsoft Edge à partir d’une nouvelle fenêtre « Application Guard » peut se solder par un échec.
Ce souci est connu puisqu’il est lié à l’installation d’une ancienne mise à jour. Redmond explique que pour résoudre la situation il faut désinstaller KB4343909, puis installer KB4340917 et KB4343909. Un correctif complet est toujours en cours de développement.
Le prochain rendez-vous est fixé en septembre avec le Path Tuesday. Il donnera naissance à plusieurs Updates s’attaquant aux soucis de sécurité. Microsoft assurera la maintenance de l’ensemble de son écosystème logiciel.

- Addresses an issue that causes computer certificate enrollment or renewal to fail with an “Access denied” error after installing the April 2018 update. This issue occurs when the registry process has a lower process ID (PID) than all other processes except SYSTEM.
- Addresses an issue that, in some cases, failed to clear decrypted data from memory after a CAPI decryption operation was completed.
- Addresses an issue that prevented the Device Guard PackageInspector.exe application from including all the files needed for an application to run correctly once the Code Integrity policy was completed.
- Addresses an issue where not all network printers are connected after a user signs in. The HKEY_USERS\User\Printers\Connections key shows the correct network printers for the affected user; however, the missing list for network printers from this registry key isn’t populated in any app, including Microsoft Notepad, or in Devices and Printers. Printers may disappear or stop functioning.
- Addresses an issue that prevents printing on a 64-bit OS when 32-bit applications impersonate other users (typically by calling LogonUser). This issue occurs after installing monthly updates starting with KB4034681, released in August 2017. To resolve the issue for the affected applications, install this update, and then do one of the following:

- Addresses an issue that causes the Wi-Fi EAP-TTLS (CHAP) authentication to fail if a user saves credential information before authentication.
- Addresses an issue that causes devices that have 802.1x Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) enabled to randomly stop working with the stop code ”0xD1 DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL”. The issue occurs when the kernel memory pool becomes corrupted. Crashes will generally occur in nwifi.sys.
- Addresses an issue that may remove a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) option from a reservation after changing the DHCP scope settings.
- Extends the Key Management Service (KMS) to support the upcoming Windows 10 client Enterprise LTSC and Windows Server editions. For more information, see KB4347075.
